Miguel Geronimo de Esparza, born April 23, 1679 in Buenos Aires, was the son of Basque merchant Alejo de Esparza, and Escolástica Rodríguez, the daughter of Captain Alfonso Rodríguez. He married Antonia Cabral de Melo Morales, great-granddaughter of the Portuguese Amador Báez de Alpoim and his wife Margarita Cabral de Melo (descendant of Nuno Velho Cabral. His son Juan Miguel de Esparza, was also an important Government Functionary.
